Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers & attendees of our "Debt-Free Chicken Dinner" on Saturday, October 1st to celebrate a major Post achievement. The loan for our parking lot has been satisfied! Post Commander Vic Simon completed the final step necessary to seal the deal. The Burning of the Mortgage!

Our local Veterans continue to serve our community, Country, & Comrades in many ways, including serving dinner! On Saturday, April 9th, 2022, VFW Post 1454 & Auxiliary prepared dinner for the Michigan Army National Guard 1-119th Field Artillery Battalion Battery B at the Alma Armory to show our support, appreciation & thanks for their service.

Special thanks to the many Post & Auxiliary volunteers that helped prepare and serve a delicious home-cooked meal to the Troops. Great job!

There are many ways to show your support to our Active Duty Military Personnel. Reach out to your family, friends & community members serving in the military. Cards, letters & care packages from home are simple ways to show appreciation & brighten someone's day.

Please join us in congratulating the recently named Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen essay winners. Each year students throughout the U.S. participate by submitting original patriotic & democratic-themed essays for the chance to earn scholarships & awards. This year's participants did an exceptional job preparing their essays. Post VOD winner Bonnie Lord's essay was also selected as the winning essay for District 9. Congratulations students! Great job!

A heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers that helped make the holidays a little brighter for local families, our Veterans & Active Duty Service Members. We appreciate the efforts of our community, Post & Auxiliary members in support of our Veterans & Active Duty Military during the holidays and throughout the year. Your generous donations, time & efforts greatly help to make our work possible. We thank you for your support!

Goldie is a Charter Auxiliary Member of Leslie C. McLean Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1454, the eldest VFW Post in Gratiot County, MI. At 93 years young, Goldie is the eldest Auxiliary Member of our Post. To call her an active member is an understatement though. Goldie has been our Post's reigning "Poppy Drive Champion" for more consecutive years than we can count. This year was no exception. Goldie dedicated 23 hours of volunteer time to our poppy drive efforts, singlehandedly raising $740.00 in donations!

Goldie is a valuable and much loved member of our Auxiliary & our Post. Goldie is the widow of U.S. Army WWII Veteran, Ronald E. Kanine (1923-2014). Ronald received 3 Purple Hearts during his time of service. He married Goldie on April 26, 1946. The Kanines lost their son Jack E. Kanine, Vietnam Veteran, SP 4 U.S. Army, (1949-1981) age 31 as a result of Agent Orange. Although the Kanine family has sacrificed much for our nation and our freedoms, Goldie continues her mission of dedicated service to our nation, our Veterans, our Post and our community.

Friday night, August 21st, 2020 the Jack Cross Memorial Classic Car Show made its 2nd annual appearance at Alma VFW Post 1454. Sponsored by Pat's Auto, Inc. from St. Louis, MI, this event drew in classic car collectors & enthusiasts alike. This year's event was well attended & our guests had a wonderful time enjoying live music, great food and a parking lot full of cool classic rides.

VFW Post 1454 Members & Auxiliary would like to thank Pat's Auto, Inc. for another spectacular Jack Cross Memorial Classic Car Show event. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Pat Brennan, Mike Brennan and Dan Smith for their generous donation of $1,100.00 to our Post! And, thanks to every single one of our 50/50 raffle winners for donating their winnings back to our Post!  WOW!!

Our fundraising events have been limited this summer but our work continues thanks to the support & generosity of our Members, Auxiliary, our community, friends & loyal supporters. The Alma Panthers High School Football Team donated $2,500 from their annual Lift-A-Thon to purchase wreaths for this year's Wreaths Across America program. Thank you Alma Panthers for your continued support!

This year's Kid's Halloween Party (an annual event made possible by our Post's awesome Auxiliary) was a spooktacularly fun event filled with lots of games, face-painting, yummy treats & free pumpkins for the kids to decorate. 

As of 10/13/19 we have received $1,540.00 on our GoFundMe account and private donation of $800.00 which brings our total donations to $2,340.00. We are $326 away from meeting our project goal. Thank you all for your support.

The Alma City Police Department began a "No Shave November" Fundraising Campaign with proceeds supporting our Post's building project. Every Alma City Police Officer contributed and the Alma PD delivered a check to our Post for $300! Thank you Alma PD!

Please join us in thanks to the Linda J. Baracy Memorial Charity for their generous contribution to our Post. Funds will be used for building materials to complete many Post improvement projects. Thank you for your continued support of our Post, Auxiliary and our local Veterans!
