VFW Post 1454 is "Springing Into Action" serving our Veterans, Active Duty Military, and our community. We have a busy Spring/Summer season planned with many volunteer opportunities for Members & non-members alike. Each donation and act of volunteerism helps us advance our cause but it's your ACTIVE PARTICIPATION that enables us to meet & exceed our goals. We're calling all readers of this post to "Spring Into Action!" Visit the Post, attend Post events and join us for a monthly meal. Public Welcome!

VFW Post 1454 Members volunteered their services to Project Paws to help pack snack bags for local children & families in need of supplemental nutrition. Alma Public Schools, Project Paws & the Gratiot County Community Foundation work together to offer these bags to children free of charge! Our Post was pleased to lend a helping hand to this worthy cause.

VFW Post 1454 donated 7 cots to Gratiot County Hope House in St. Louis, Michigan. Founded in May of 2018, Hope House is a transitional & crisis housing center dedicated to meeting the temporary housing needs of the roughly 600 homeless in our county. The Alma Family Farm & Home store is currently offering a buy-one/donate-one snack promotion. For each snack purchased, Family Farm & Home will donate an additional snack to our Active-Duty Military personnel. VFW Post 1454 will assist by shipping these items to our troops stationed overseas. Please stop by the Alma Family Farm & Home to purchase your snacks and be sure to thank them for their continued support of our Military & local Veterans!

Our Post hosts many fun filled events but we're not just out for a good time. Our events raise awareness for our causes and donations to administer the services we provide to our veterans, troops & community. There's always something going on at VFW Post 1454. August 28th, 2017
VFW 1454 Post Members, all Vietnam Veterans, spent the afternoon constructing a handicap ramp for one of their comrades, a disabled Veteran. Post Members worked with the local Home Depot to secure a materials donation and gathered together to construct this ramp at no cost to the Veteran.

September 18th, 2017
VFW Post 1454 will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, September 18th from Noon until 5:45 p.m. Give the gift of life, give blood. Save time, register early with Rapid Pass.

We'd also like to thank Brad for going above and beyond maintaining the lawn at Post 1454. Thanks to Commander Vic for building new flower boxes for the Post and to Char, Jackie and Darlene for filling them with beautiful flowers.

Welcome Spring! It's the start of our busy season at Post 1454 and there are many ways for you to get involved. Join us for one of our Post & Auxiliary sponsored meals or events, sign-up to volunteer an hour of your time, share our events on social media, attend a meeting and share your ideas. Every contribution helps our Post assist our local Veterans and our community!

VFW Post 1454 invites any Veteran interested in riding in the parade to join us. We have vehicles available. Contact us for more info or stop by the Post to sign up!

Members & Auxiliary
Our Post has made many advancements in recent years. We added several new projects including our participation in the National Wreaths Across America Day and Red Cross Blood Drives. We made major improvements to our building. We increased our ability to assist local Veterans and our community. We expanded our reach and raised public awareness significantly with the help of the Internet and social media. None of this would have been possible without the many volunteers who have donated their time, effort and talents to assist our Post in achieving our goals.

As VFW and Auxiliary members we have dedicated ourselves to a lifetime of service to our Veterans, our Country and our community. Sec 230102 of our Congressional Charter includes charity and education when outlining the purpose of the VFW. Our Mission Statement includes service to our Veterans, the Military and our community. Our Core Values ensure the care of our Veterans and their families and service to our community.

There are opportunities available within our Post for each and every member to lend a hand, share their talents and offer their support. Every act of volunteerism, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, is an opportunity to improve the life of a Veteran within our community and raise awareness for our cause.

Let's make 2017 a banner year for volunteerism. Many hands make work light and there is much work to be done. There are many ways you can make a difference and they are all very simple. Sign up to volunteer. Show up to a monthly meeting and share your ideas. Support Post fund raising efforts -  buy & sell raffle tickets, pasties and tickets to our special events. Bring your friends and family to a fish fry or Sunday breakfast. Follow us on Facebook, like and share our posts. Every contribution is important!

• Sunday Breakfast Volunteers
• Friday Fish Fry Volunteers
• Saturday January 21st  - Ellen needs a helper for the dart tournament.

​Sunday Breakfast & Fish Fry Volunteers are needed for hosting, money collection, serving & clean-up. Our goal for 2017 is to increase volunteer sign up so each member would only have to volunteer 1-2 shifts per year. This should be an easy goal to achieve but we need you! Contact the Post for more information and get your name on the list. Breakfast volunteers contact Cecelia Proctor or Loretta Lombard to sign up.
