VFW Post 1454 is raising funds for the 2017 National Wreaths Across America Day project. Last year, our Post was able to place a wreath on every Veteran's grave in the Veteran's Section of Riverside Cemetery in Alma, Michigan. Please help us honor our comrades and support this wonderful cause! 50/50 Raffle Tickets are now available at the Post. Proceeds will be used to purchase wreaths this year's Wreaths Across America project. The professional caber throwers will compete against themselves in an individual challenge to raise funds for Alma VFW Post 1454 "Wreaths Across America" Project 2017. VFW Post 1454 will lead the 50th Annual Alma Highland Parade! Saturday May 27th at 10:30 am VFW Post 1454 invites any Veteran interested in riding in the parade to join us. The wall will contain the names of the 2,654 Michigan soldiers who gave their lives in the Vietnam War including 130 soldiers from our district, District 9, and 17 soldiers from Gratiot County. The names of the 17 Gratiot County soldiers are also listed on the news board located inside our Post. Please take a moment to read their names and remember their sacrifice the next time you visit the Post.
Engraved bricks in tribute of Vietnam Veterans are also available for $50 each. These bricks will be placed in front of the Vietnam Freedom Wall Monument and can include the name of any Vietnam Veteran. For more information on the Buy A Brick Program click here. Raffle tickets are available at the Post. You may also make donations by check payable to Veteran's Freedom Wall. A Go Fund Me Account has also been set up to help raise funds. We will share dedication information as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for supporting your local Veterans!
Happy Holidays from VFW Post 1454! December is a busy month with events, fundraisers, raffles, parties, dart tournaments and more. There is something fun for everyone! The Auxiliary is sponsoring a Quilt Raffle this month. Tickets are available at the Post or through Auxiliary Members. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. The quilt is handmade and constructed with military uniforms. It is on display at the Post. All proceeds go toward adopting military families for Christmas. Join Post 1454 as we place wreaths at the Veteran's Section of the Riverside Cemetary in Alma on December 17th. We are seeking 36 volunteers to help place wreaths and assist in other ways. We will begin placing wreaths at noon. Contact Jeff Humphy our Wreaths Across America program chair for more information or inquire at the Post. We are proud to be participating in this wonderful project honoring our fallen Comrades. Reminder, the Post will be closed on Christmas Day.We will not be having a Friday Fish Fry in December but we will be hosting another New Year's Eve Party! Same great menu and entertainment as last year. We'd like to thank our wonderful Ellen Winn and her helpers for decorating the Post. Everything looks so festive and nice. Great job ladies! We're glad to have you on board. Post Members, we are looking to fill two key positions for 2017. Post Commander and Quartermaster. Both positions are extremely important to our organization. Beginning in January 2017, the Auxiliary will be hosting Sunday Breakfast on the 2nd Sunday of January. The Auxiliary is seeking volunteers for this event. Contact Cecelia or Loretta or inquire at the Post if interested. Finally, from our family to yours, VFW Post 1454 wishes all a safe and happy holiday season.
