We are proud to display this beautiful work of art by Jackie Mow. If you haven't been to the Post lately we invite you to stop in to see all the new improvements. Our Veterans, Post and Auxiliary Members have been working hard to make improvements throughout Post 1454 for all to enjoy.

Thank you Great Lakes Highlanders for adopting VFW Post #1454. We were honored to be selected by the Great Lakes Highlanders to receive their winnings from the caber toss at this year's Highland Festival games. Each year, the Great Lakes Highlanders contribute to Veterans groups. This year they adopted our Post and raised $1,078.00 in support of local Veterans! Please join us in salute to this wonderful group of people. We thank you Great Lakes Highlanders for your generosity, commitment and support of local Veterans! Our Memorial Day ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at Riverside Park in Alma, Michigan. The ceremony will continue at the Riverside Cemetery where we will gather at the Veteran's Memorial to conclude our service. Refreshments, coffee and doughnuts, will be served back at the Post immediately following our ceremony. All are welcome to attend!
VFW Post 1454 and its Auxiliary would like to thank Keith and Pat Owen for their generous contribution to our Post. Keith and Pat donated the materials and labor to paint the interior of our club room and hall. Painting an area of this size is no small task! They did a beautiful job. We have received many compliments on the quality of their work and the fresh new look of our club room and hall. We cannot thank them enough for their hard work and generosity. Their efforts have made a noticeable improvement to our Post that will be enjoyed by all who enter. Keith and Pat are both Auxiliary Members of Post 1454. They are the owners of Tri-Area Painting located in St. Louis, MI and they are responsible for all of the painting projects that have been completed at the Post in the past year and a half. They have generously donated their labor and the materials needed to make these improvements to our Post for all of us to enjoy. (Left) Post Commander Vic Simon presents Keith and Pat Owen with a Certificate of Appreciation for their generous contribution to Post 1454. Words and awards do not adequately express our gratitude & appreciation for your many contributions to Post 1454.
It was easy to see and hear this group coming. They make quite an entrance! But single riders are not so easily seen or heard. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Save a life - look twice! Remember to watch for motorcycle traffic and share the roads. Let's keep these riders safe. Please read "Ten Things All Car & Truck Drivers Should Know About Motorcycles" published by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and included it at the end of this blog post. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Alma Fire District for providing a big red welcome for The Nozzlemen. We appreciate your show of support and thank you for your service to our community!

We thank you for your service! Leslie C. McLean VFW Post #1454 salutes our Comrade Earl F. Wickman for 70 years of dedicated service to our organization. Born and raised in Alma Michigan, Earl is a WWII Veteran who served as a Staff Sergeant in the 98th Chemical Composite in the Pacific theatre during WWII. Earl was 22 years old and still enlisted in the United States Army when he joined the Post back in 1945. Today at 93 years old, Earl remains an active member of VFW Post 1454 where he continues to serve as a member of the Honor Guard, the prestigious group that carries out the “21 Gun Salute” military honors. In addition to his Honor Guard duties, Earl marches with his fellow Veterans each year in the Highland Parade.
Thank you Earl F. Wickman for 70 years of dedicated service to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1454, our community & our Country. |
