David Wright, born and raised in Ithaca, Michigan is a retired Army Sergeant who was wounded in Vietnam while leading his platoon on Valentine's Day 1969. David was hit by enemy fire but continued to hold his exposed position while he tended to his wounded comrades. His actions allowed his soldiers to make it to safety. David Wright served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. On Friday, November 10th, 2017, Alma VFW Post 1454 was honored to provide our Post to Representative John Moolenaar and staff to bestow upon Retired Army Sergeant David Wright the Purple Heart he earned so many years ago. David was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal with V Device for valorous action and Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Device, Sharpshooter Badge and Vietnam Commemoration Pin along with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition. VFW Post 1454 salutes Retired Army Sergeant David Wright for his brave and selfless actions. We extend our sincere thanks to Representative Moolenaar for his efforts to ensure our Veterans receive the honors, medals and recognition they have earned.

I loved grandpa with all my heart, so sad he passed away last August!!
